Order Out of Chaos

by Revival Ntuli

The earth was without formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis1:2-3

The earth was a chaotic place-water and darkness covered the earth. You could not tell whether it was round, square, or whatever shape. It was not a desirable place, and it was not obvious that something good could come into being. But in the midst of it all, the earth was not forsaken by God.

There was hope because the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over the surface of the waters. It was a sign that God will say something. I’m amazed when I look at the stars, marine world, wildlife, and many beautiful things at how they came into being through the spoken Word of the Lord.

The moment when God spoke light into existence, there was order. Darkness and light were separated. The water was separated so that dry ground appears. It was not an overnight process but God consistently spoke Words of life until it was a beautiful place. The place that was initially dark and empty became lively.

Do you sometimes find yourself in chaotic situations? Life can be so chaotic such that you don’t even know where to start and arrange everything so that there is order. It could be family, work, church issues, or any crises that can push you to be in a dark place. These issues can lead to depression and anxiety. The first reaction is that you want to run away from everything instead of looking to the Word of God.

The story of creation gives hope that the spoken Word of God works through chaotic situations to bring order. The Word brings what is not into being. It brings light into darkness. The same Holy Spirit who hovered upon the surface of the waters lives in you. He is also working through your chaotic situations. Therefore God expects you to speak forth the Word of life. When the Word meets the Spirit, miracles begin to happen.

When you go through a dark situation, pay attention to what God is saying. Own those words, let them be yours! Meditate on them. Declare them in your secret place of prayer. Say them to yourself and act on the Word. Some miracles are not instant but progressive. As you consistently speak forth the Word of God, the darkness will surely disappear. You shall experience a beautiful picture of your life you thought never existed.
